The New Pirates of Penang

Snatch Thief, have been reigning over Penang for sometime, and now, it seams like they are untouchables. With the Police working so hard, the number of such crimes does not seam to reduce, at least this is what its felt like in Penang. Just before the Chinese New Year, a family friend was rob of her handbag right at the bankers street. She was working there and was on her way to breakfast, a biker came and took away her handbag leaving her dazed and bruised on the floor. When she was making the report, the police said that her case was the 3rd of the day on the same area. What does it take to apprehend these pirates? What does it take to stop such crimes, or at least making these crimes probability hitting on the average joe lower than striking the lottery. Why have this country become so unsafe? Don’t tell me that it has been always this unsafe, cause I don’t recall the newspaper were covered with snatch thief cases 20 years back. Have the laws been suffering from weak knees?

I think it is because of the raids done on the DVD/T-Shirt/”Rolex” watches vendors. These guys were happily selling their stuffs (e.g. Batu Ferringhi, Bukit Jambul, etc). and suddenly, “RAID!”. Now they’ve got nothing left – I’m pretty sure that they’ve dump a significant amount of theyr life’s savings in acquiring their “stocks”. So, with no money, the “stock” in the police station/lock-up somewhere, what else can they do? i seriously think that if anyone actually work on the sequence of events, they will see the transition from the drop of pirated dvds/t-shirt/rolex to an increase in street crimes.
