Charity

I don’t have a particular favorite charity. I contribute when ever I can, and it is usually on monetary means. As the world progresses, there are going to be many that are left behind, and some are consumed by natural disaster. There are thousands of foundation and efforts to ensure these who were left behind are taken care off. Some are religious, but it is just basic human nature. The sad part is that many of these foundations are truly ineffective. If you check out charitynavigator.org, you will find that some of the charities operating cost consume more than 50% of the total income, this means that the money meant for the cause were less than 50%. This reminds me of the time, where I was having lunch and a guy was selling post cards for the city’s cancer center. At the bottom of the post card pack, there was a disclaimer that 10% of the card profit goes to the center. 90% of it were operating cost. It just doesn’t make sense, and if it was this little money to go into the charity, why bother doing it at all. This is why I truly believe, to do charity, one needs to get directly involved. I only donates to the reputable charity organizations, and gets involved in those smaller ones. I remembered once, I went to an orphanage and sold drinks at their charity fair. I gathered some money from a few friends and we all went to buy a heap of can drinks and sold all of them off. We donated all the money to the children’s home.
