8.24.2008 | Mamma Mia! The Movie

MammaMiaPosterCr Try saying that fast 10 times, bet you get your tongue twisted real good.  Well, I am ecstatic that the popular musical with the same title has finally come to the silver screen, and best yet, coming to Malaysia this Sept 22nd.  If you have missed the 70’s, then you must watch this movie.  It brings Abba (Angetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni) to live with hits like Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, SOS, and much more.  Don’t know Abba, that’s alrite, you dont have to know them to love their music.  But you must have heard of Dancing Queen, it has been featured in countless movies, especially 70’s theme movies.  Unlike other great groups of past, Abba have been keeping a tight grip on their music, and they were even heavily involved in the musical productions, ensuring their music were not being diluted by other creatives.  I am counting the days till the premier on Sept 22nd.  It would be such a treat.

8.18.2008 | Bolo my iRobot Roomba

IMG_2512a (Small)My little housemaid has finally arrived.  We named it, Bolo.  Its an amazing little thing.  Out of the box, I pulled a yellow tag to activate the battery, and  ‘tuutiluu’ Bolo greeted me to life .  I set it to charge and within a couple of hours, the little thing were set to go.  I set it to do it’s duties every morning at 9am, so that we wouldn’t be bothered by the vacuuming noise. Today was it’s first day, and boy, the floors are spanking shining.  Unfortunately, first day at work didn’t go all too well for Bolo.  It picked up of my pants behind the drawers and got stuck.  Fortunate enough for me, he was almost done, except for some corners.  The great thing about Bolo, the iRobot Roomba 560 is that it does all the work it suppose to.  And the disappointing thing is that it aint that perfect. It knocked down our ironing board and got stuck on the toilet rug.  It works well with carpet as the weight of the carpet allows it to free itself, but a light toilet rug, just follows it where ever it go.  The funny thing about the entire package is that the charging or docking bay is black, while the charger or power adapter is white in color.  The Roomba 560 comes with two ‘light house’, two little transceiver that tells the little thing where the room divide.  This is so that it can finish the first room before moving to the second room.  Else, it will just go where ever it wants.  I didn’t really mind so I just let the little thing rip.  The two little light out also was not in matching color.  the entire module felt like a lego set, with each items having its own color scheme.  It would be nice if the colors are in sync.  Will let it roomba tomorrow morning at 9am again and see if it can get those spots…

8.5.2008 | Being Original

IMG_2211

Recently, on my trip to ShenZhen, China, I came across this CNN feature on Cai Guo Qiang.  An artist that imprints his emotions with gunpowder.  The thing that strike me the most was premierly this arts concepts.  During the interview he noted that the biggest challenge for an artist is being original.  That struck me as a bom.  I never thought artist to be like that.  I’ve always regard myself as an artist, because I like to create and appreciate.  But what I’ve created is oftenly inspired from something that I saw.  Something that imprints into my mind and comes out after being diluted and digested.  This certainly brings a new meaning to the word ‘Artist’.  One is only an artist if one creates originally.  Anyone can take something and then make it different, but not many can be original.  Also, being original is one thing, but being original and appreciated as something great that truely sets the ‘real’ artist out from the rest.  I regard myself an artist, its time I stop doing that.  I can aspire to be an artist, till I created something original, then I am a real artist.
