When I got onto the new job, my boss ordered a HP Laptop for me. That was 2 weeks back and I called the help desk today to check where the order is. The helpdesk replied that the order would take 20 working days, in another words, a month to arrive. I was totally shock. How can HP have such a lousy delivery date. My previous company utilizes IBM and the order are fulfilled the very next week after order. When I ordered my Dell Desktop online, it arrives no later than 2 weeks. This was a corporate account. My ex-colleague previously also ordered a HP laptop for his personal use in one of the road show, during sale the promise was 1 week, the actual, was 4 weeks. Obviously, HP has a major problem in their supply-demand planning system. Other companies could churn out the laptop much faster, why can’t you. So, a caution to consumers, when you ordered your HP, be prepared to wait a little longer for your machine.
I have been craving for an Apple Mac for quite sometime now and have not been able to afford one. Even there was an Employee Purchase Program at my office where a good 6% discount were given, I always have other priorities rather than satisfying this craving. I have made my XP to look so much like OsX for now I guess I should be able to go on without one for a while.
As ’300′ the movie was released this weekend, I went over to the official site to check out the movie. As I came to the wallpaper download section, I notice how tedious it is to just change wallpaper on OsX. I include a screenshot above. With WinXP, I just need to right click on the image and select ‘Set as Wallpaper’, Bam, I am done. But with a Mac, I have to first safe it, then open the System Preference (Control Panel), and do some drag and drop. I am beginning to start to feel that OsX is not as cool as it seams. Especially coming from a window user.
Well, Gigabyte is not that new to me, I have seen their motherboards in the market for quite some time, but Amtek is totally new to me. These two companies have recently launch their UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer) at Cebit, and its spanking hot. What could be the next hot thing after Digital Cameras and Portable MP3 players? To me UMPC will be the hot future. With the introduction of 3G and WiMax, this enable high speed internet connection anywhere within a given city and this will help to push UMPC from the techno geek to the average user. Imagine, lost in a city, just pop up your UMPC for a google map. Need Cash, and need a PC to make money transfer? Just pop up your UMPC to do the transaction and withdraw from the nearest ATM machine. Applications are limitless. The biggest challenge to the UMPC makers are how to make the device powerful and yet lightweight and cool looking. Imagine the UMPC released by Gigabyte and Amtek, as thin as the Motorola Razr Phone, how hot is that…
Something came out from Microsoft’s Live Search, an active search engine, which sprinkle some icing onto your search result. Like a barrister who puts the cream on top of the coffee, Ms Dewey smartly comments before she provides you the search result. The idea is cool, and this could pave way for future computerized personal assistance. However in terms of practicality, I am still sticking to Google or Microsoft Live search. The comments are funny, and good, but the layout of the search result is too small, compact and difficult to navigate. It’s a fun toy, and I’ve seen comments on other blogs that people have spent hours playing with Ms Dewey and some wanted to make her as their online girl friend.
Many spent much time on her mainly because of her smart comments, and also the promise of her taking her clothes off (yea, a great way to sell something, the promise of nudity). Instead of what she could do, people were more interested in seeing Ms. Dewey nude. I am not sure where this comes from, but according to this blogger, if the right key word is entered, Ms Dewey would be naked. Well, the keyword is as simple as “take off your clothes”, one just need to be persistent(similarly when you pursue the lady of your dreams), enter it 3 times, and be hold. Pls don’t expect, much, this is associated to Microsoft, and they don’t make porn, not even anything close to soft port, though their name may suggest something micro or soft.
The flood gates opened at 18.00 GMT, while I was sound asleep. I participated wekgna.com/blog to the reboot and had a fresh change over, minus the plastic surgeon of course. I’ve actually re-booted a few days earlier as I could not wait till Nov 1st to get the new design live. Anyway, here we are, there are a huge selection of interesting design this Fall. Check them out at www.cssreboot.com
