pHappy Deepavali to all our Indian Friends and Family… /p

My brother inlaw wedding was around the corner, next week to be exact and the thing about the door gift for his wedding was still uncertain. May Lin offered to make door gifts through mum and the closest we got to a yes was the brother said he will called back to confirm. Our initial thought was to make potpourri, something nice for the guest to take away. That was last week, and almost the end of the wedding gift idea or offer since we did not receive any call back. Saturday morning, as usual, we set out to our usual B’fast, and after that, we didn’t want to just go back, so we went over to OneStop, one of the ailing shopping mall in Penang where we rarely visits. On the concourse, there was a China Vase exibit/sale, a nice Chinese Vase as a wedding gift perhaps, well, we found ceramic chopsticks, and beautifully painted chopsticks I must add. This was the beginning of the weekend quest. The price was reasonable, and it was somewhere close to what we paid for when we made our own wedding dinner door gifts. Before this, May Lin’s colleague already tip her about a Chinese wedding ‘stuff’ shop near Komtar. So, after One Stop, we went over to this place and found chopsticks as well, nicely decorated and packed, And the price was also reasonable, cheaper than what we paid for when we DIY. It was between wooden chopsticks and ceramics, and price in fact almost the same, we went for ceramics.
Before we went back, a quick phone call to the brother to ensure he has not made or ordered his door gifts yet. Back to OneStop, we manage to bargain the price down to almost the targeted level. We bought 250 pairs, for 25 tables. The chopsticks were plain and did not have any gloves or anything to keep them together. It was bought bulk anyway, and not fit to be just given like this. So we first added some ribbon decorations, and later a sticker as a thank you note. The ribbons we got it from Popular Bookstore and the red string (elastic) was from Kamdar. The sticker was printed on the spot over at Gurney Plaza, a small stall that offer sticker printing. Saturday was a shopping day. When we got back, it was already rather late, so we did not get much done. By Monday, all was done, then we felt something that was missing. During my wedding, I had a small card made stating the significance of chopsticks, and we tie a card to every pair. It was too late to do the same, so we printed 25 A4 size cards to be folded and place on each tables, the cards again was bought from Popular Bookshop. The result, as shown in the pictures. It took our entire weekend to finish all 250 pairs, but it was fun and fulfilling. Anyone else interested in Chopsticks as a wedding gifts, we don’t mind taking orders.

On Blogging
Blogging is the one thing that I enjoy doing and something that I dont have the time to indulge into. For a long time, I have loads of things on my mind that I want to blog. But because they were just bits and pieces of ideas and it needs the time to really put it down to perfection, it needs time. And when I have the time, I dont have the inspiration. I have just thought of trying something new. A change in my blogging habbit. Re-Invent Myself. Instead of putting down hundreds of words one one topic, I will just instead put down what’s on my mind, no matter how broken up they are. So, today, I hope to blog more often, daily I hope. To vent some of the frustration in life, to share some of the sweet memories and to laugh with myself.
On Che Det
I come to realize, what I am trying to do is not totally new. Tun Mahathir have been blogging in snippets. The thing that strike me is that firstly, it does not look that nice, and secondly, I dont understand what he speaks off half the time. Maybe I am that dumb. Like today, he first say that he is ambarassed that Shah Rukh Khan was awarded Datukship, then he ended his post by saying that the guy qualifies for it. Artistically interesting on how he structure his post, but for an engineer like me, not sure what point he is driving through. Maybe it was meant to be that way…
On Nude Pics
I recently came across a blog posting of Malaysian Colleague girls nude pics through petaling street project. The girls in question came out in today’s Star article “Dont Be Stupid, Chong tells women”. Somehow, I felt sorry for them as now onwards, they are not able to face the world. Worst, for those who don’t know, this article on The Star will sure to alert them. Intriguing minds will lead them to the photos. If you think of taking nude photos, don’t do it.
On VSS
VSS – Voluntary Seperation Scheme, some calls it VSP, etc. My product division recent gave 8 of my colleagues the package. Majority of then are > 10-20 years in the company. They were very happy, its like a fat paycheque before they retire. As this shceme is right for the employees, and should have, it somehow has given the bad impression. Some of my colleagues just stide through daily without any effort or passion. To them, they are just waiting for the big fat package. When you ask, how’s everything, they would say, “like this lor, waiting lor!”. Not that long back the goverment annouce that they will give VSS to civil servants that does not perform. Yes, I was surprise of the annoucement. Its like, you cannot perform, here, I give you a big fat reward to leave. Its sending the wrong signal. The VSS scheme is to protect employees, that the companies are obliged to pay compensation to employees if they decided to terminate them. Its not a meant as a bonus package. For my colleagues, they do deserve it, they have worked so hard all the years, and this is some kind of a reward for them. Those who do not deserve it, are still waiting.
On Blogging
Looks like I dont make much sense. I now understand why sometimes I dont understand Che Det….

This event was organized by an organization named Kings of Tennis. Their objective was to create the first team based tournaments for the big names in tennis. By big names, they meant numero uno in Tennis. Big Bang Penang is Team America vs Team Europe. This event will be held annually and it begins in Penang. This year, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Roy Emerson and Marcelo Rios will be playing for Team America and Bjorn Borg, Stefan Edberg, Mats Wilander and Ilie Nastase will be playing for Team Europe. The event will be held on November 14th till 16th and will be filled with doubles and singles matches.
I am so excited. There are no announcements about tickets yet, and I bet it will be expensive. Looking at the artist impression of the stadium, it looks like the stadium will be built on the Esplanade. Tennis by the Sea… wonderful. Check out the press release over at kingsoftennis.com.
Oh, check out the little scribble on the main page, funny.
