Back in 2006, I blog about the possibility of detecting laptops in the car trunk or booth. Here is another explanation on how the laptop could be detected by a handheld device. According to the mail I received below, it suggest that the battery clock emits an RF signal that can be detected through a spectrum analyser. This is highly plausible.
The detector detects battery in the laptop which is still active even laptop is in off mode. Usually battery has internal clock that clock up battery fuel gauge IC. This clock generate RF signal which can be picked up by the detector.
