RM99 wireless router

img_0617-2-small.jpg

I have been wired for almost a year, after the Belkin router I bought in the US for only USD7 starts to act up. The router becomes unstable and keep dropping connections every 5 minutes. I gave the router to my sister in-law to use as LAN router, which works fine. We have been trawling long LAN cables around the house, and the laptop have been kept out of the bedroom, which is good. But this dry spell has come to an end today. While browsing around in Queensbay Mall, I came across this Aztech Wireless Router on sale, from a regular price of RM159, drop to RM99, which I thought was a great bargain. Just about a week ago, I pop into my friend’s computer shop at BJ and he was selling this very modem for RM159. He commented that this is the cheapest model around. He was also selling Belkin at RM169, which was a promo. I was thinking of getting that already. This was mainly because we have got tired of the messy wires at home. So, you can imagine my surprise when I saw this very wireless router for RM99. The setup was a breeze. Fire it up, plug in, goes into the router admin and setup the wireless encryption and whola, connected…

Goodbye Charade

viva.JPG

When ever meeting old friends, they never fail to ask 2 things, first is if my dad still smokes a pipe, and second if my dad still drives his Red Daihatsu Charade around in Town. Well, the next time they ask, I will have a “no” answer for the later. We went shopping for a small car today. Viva, Myvi, Suria, Forza and Savvy. After half a day knocking here and there, test drive and negotiating, Viva turn out to be the champion. It was just that my dad like the care more, and for me, Airbag, ABS & EBD were the reason. I have to say, this car is not cheap. A fully automated version sells at RM44k, which is much more than what I paid for 10 years back for my Wira Aeroback. I only paid RM42k then. Nevertheless, my dad seams to like the car alot and why not. The color choices also made the family go back and fourth the entire day and we finally settle for Green.

The red charade was the family car for almost 20 years, and the car seams to be living to it’s life expectancy. It has been giving so much trouble lately, and the money spent on it just screams for a better judgment. Furthermore, my dad is already >70 years old, and an automatic car will allow him to drive more easily. Anyway, it was not difficult for me to let the charade go, though there were many memories, it was after all, the family transport, and we have spent a great deal of time in the car as well. I just wonder when will the new car come? hehe..

Nobita the Prime Minister

ap_fukuda_070925_ms.jpg

When I was young, all I wanted was a friend like Doraemon. With his mystery pocket that provide endless of gadgets that could make problems go away, life was just so sweet then. Well, I have grown up, and have made a life for myself. I have wondered what happen to Nobita. Imagine my surprise when I saw Nobita in the papers, he has grown up to be the prime minister of Japan. Oh, being the prime minister must have taken a toll on him as he has lost much hair. If only Cats live that long, Nobita would have achieve much more with Doraemon’s help, no doubt about that…

New Theme for the New Year

gridlinelite-small.jpg

To welcome the new year, I have implemented a new theme, not a home grown them, but rather a plug a play theme. Gridline lite is the name, it is a simple version of the Magazine styled Gridline theme. I wanted a 3 column theme to test out if this indeed is best theme layout for moneterizing the blog. With a little nib tuck, whoala, a new theme is released, within just an hour. Unfortunately, I could not get it to look nicely on IE, IE just too regid and does not freely render CSS. Firefox on the other hand rules…

Can Blogs go Green?

rohs.JPGAs the world trying to go Green, to sustain itself for future generations, I wonder if we can have similar concept for blogging.  But, before I dwell long into this, I have notice a basic flaw in this concept.  Firstly, blogging uses computers, and computers are not ROHS compliant.  At least not all of the components are.  If you have a laptop, it is even worst, there is this battery thing, which is public enemy numero uno to the environment.  This is particularly true when there is no proper disposal.  But even in the battery making process, many trees are chop down to mine for nickel, again, anti-green.  So, the question now is, will we ever have a green blog? Can we proudly say that we are 100% Green one day? I believe so, when methane gas powers a ROHS computer, we can call ourself green bloggers.  For now, we can only keep consumption minimal, meaning, not leaving the computer on 24hrs a day, minimize the blog design, so that it consume less space and blog less, that would consume less energy, which means less nuclear reactor…..
