The concert was awesome. I could not find a better word to describe it. Gwen brought so much energy with her and the crowd gave the equal amount back. Combined, it could have powered KL city for the whole year. I walked out the stadium with my ears ringing, dazed from the enigmatic performance. She performed all the favorite hits and had a costume change at every 2-3 songs. The performance lasted for 1.5 hours leaving us wanting for more. This was how ecstatic the concert was.
I may sound like a Jakun, this is the first time I attended such a huge concert, please forgive me. We arrived an hour early, and slowly made out way into the stadium. At that time, it was only 20% filled. When we walked in, the national anthem started to play. I was utmost disappointed as the crowd responded rather slowly to the anthem. I only see everyone stand 3rd verse in. Worst, there were some youth remain seated. I felt like smacking their head, but they were seated at the upper tier of the stadium, too far away. Where is the love, those who sacrifice for the country must be disappointed as there are some not appreciative at all. The irony part is that when Gwen performance started, the crowd immediately stand up. Apa la….
On our way in, we were searched and was banned to bring any camera in. To my surprise, flashes were flickering everywhere, and some were holding SLR cameras, I wonder how they got that through the fat bold bouncer. Yes don’t laugh, luckily he only run his hands through my back, front pockets and back pockets, nothing more..
The Arena A seats were superb, we were less than 10 meters away from Gwen. The stadium filled up very slowly, and at 8.30pm, the supposedly start time the stadium was only 70% filled. The concert started at 9pm, 30 minutes in. Apart from being close to Gwen, the Arena A seats were also filled with Celebs, Hans Isaac, AC Di Sini, Alex Yong, and many more Malaysian actors whom I have seen them on Cerekarama but don’t know their names. When the concert starts, many from the back went to the front. We practically stood for the whole duration, and everyone were dancing.
At one moment, Gwen Stefani was pointing to the left of the stadium, and that part of the stadium roars. As she move her index finger to the right, the audiences scream follows. I could understand why some would want to become a celebrity. Apart from all the other satisfactions of being a celeb, the power to bring such energy out from the crowd, it must have felt great. The politicians up at the VVIP seats must have envied Gwen. With just a finger, the whole stadium screams their lungs out.
At the end of the performance, Gwen ran to the back of the stadium and sang a song from there. She was up at the Second Tier and the audiences there get to shake Gwen’s hand. I believe they will not wash their hands tonight..
Key learnings, you don’t have to come early to the concert, it starts late anyway, you can smuggle a camera in, you will be burning inside for trusting the organizers, get the most expensive seats, you will be sitting with local celebs and go straight in front when the concert starts.

When the Gwen Stefani’s Sweet Escape concert were first announced, we wanted very much to go. I had the Maxis One Club membership and wanted to purchase tickets at a discounted price. Since the concert were rather expensive, we decided to go for the second cheapest seat (@ RM154.80 after 10% discount). Just days before we go down to KL to purchase the tickets (which could only be purchased at One Utama), I notice that my One Club card expired about a couple of months ago. I called up Maxis to ask if I can purchase the tickets without the card and with just the membership number since I have not received the replacement card yet. The initial response was disappointing as I was told that I was no more a club member. Not satisfied with the response, I complained through the web about how ineffective the loyalty program is and receive a response only after I my trip to KL and M’cca. The response was that I could still use the old card as Maxis was in the mist of revamping their loyalty program. The news came a little too late as I was already back from KL. Disappointed, I gave up hope for the concert and moved on.
Then a couple of weeks later, I notice pan global rocks had arena tickets up for bidding and I went for it. We were totally happy for winning the bid for Arena A tickets which cost RM770 for two person for only RM284, which is less than half the price of the tickets. Totally ecstatic, and now counting the minutes till the event.
